This morning Baby Babe was excited to find a fresh selection of toys and treasure baskets on her Montessori inspired toy shelf. I have been taking a few moments each day to sit back and observe her play. I quietly watch her movements, what areas in house she likes to explore, what textures and sounds she enjoys, and how long she spends focusing on these self led activities.
At 10 months old I have noticed these trends:
- talking/ naming objects
- standing unsupported, efforts to walk (3-4 steps so far!)
- fabrics and stuffed animals for peekaboo and hugging
- efforts to put her clothes on by herself (socks, hats, shirts)
- splashing in the dog’s bowls
- dancing and singing
Yesterday we got off of our path of a nice orderly play area, but for a reason! I dumped her toy box from our “toy library” out on the family room floor and let her find the things that she wanted to play with. She found her owls, her bell, and her numbers puzzle.
She has also been really into her book, “Old Hat New Hat”. She loves to point at the bear and flip the pages. I set her owls on the shell along with “I’m Not Sleepy”. I love hearing her make the owl noise, it is just too stinking cute!

At the end of the day I packed up the left over toys and brought out her Busy Zoo Cube, which provides another object for her to stand next to and practice taking tiny steps from the couch to reach. I love having her xylophone and piano on the shelf but they have actually never been put away so I decided to return them to our toy library. “Absence makes he heart grow fonder,” right?
A great idea for a treasure basket for baby! I filled her basket with various hats to play with and set her book on top. We had so much fun exploring before breakfast! It was really exciting to see her little brain working and how she focused on the book for so long. She was also doing the sign for “hat” which I don’t do very often. So cool!
I can already see that she’s spending more time in the family room instead of running off to my bedroom to dig around in my closet. Hurray for a refresh! Stay posted for our next refresh in a few weeks. 🙂
